Shipping Container Homes

We import considerably more than we export from New York, so shipping containers remain in massive stacks at our boatyards. We love to hear when courageous individuals with innovative ideas take on the challenge of transforming this stagnant material into something of public or personal use.

Here's one project that makes us smile.  Cute couple David Boyle and Michele Bertomen transformed a narrow vacant lot in Williamsburg, Brooklyn into a home made from shipping containers! Little did they know, their humble abode at 351 Keap Street was the first of it's kind and has inspired many others to take on small living spaces and incorporate recycled materials into the construction of their homes.  Now don't stand and stare, but a quick breeze by 351 Keap might spark an idea in you.
