We wear our clothes to death. We love the broken in look and the comfortable worn in feel, but sometimes one too many holes develop or we just grow out of them. Whether it's donating to the likes of Housing Works and Salvation Army, or cutting them up into rags, there are many creative ways to repurpose clothes we don't wear anymore.

I stick with the oldie but goodie - Goodwill! There are so many locations around town, that I just slowly fill up the bin that I keep in the back of my car and drop off when I drive by one! This way there is a steady flow of in and out at my house, and not just donating goods a couple of times a year :)

All my pre-Goodwill clothes got a chance to switch owners during my first clothing exchange party last month! Even with a variety of sizes, each of us four gals left with at least five new items and the memories of a fun evening. I must plan another one later this year!

I donate clothing to my local "dropbox" which supports a church youth group.

My oldies, but still wearable clothes, get dropped off at my local Goodwill. Other articles of clothing such as "I'd rather not subject anyone to wear this" t-shirts and undershirts are repurposed for cleaning the apartment, bike, car, and shoes.

I am so lucky as most of my clothing goes to a fantastic tag sale held twice a year in Northampton MA by a colleague of mine. So many of them get worn by folks who love them vintage. The others get donated to The Clothes Exchange in Burlington VT for a one day tag sale for charity.
So great to know that someone enjoys my discards. I throw away nothing.

I donate some to Goodwill, but have also started repurposing old clothes into new clothes! For example, I'll cut an old tshirt and sew the fabric into 'new' undies...

I host "Closet Shopping Nights" with my girlfriends. Everyone brings a few items that they no longer wear regularly, and the swapping begins! Cocktails and snacks are also served. Anything not claimed goes to the St. Vincent DePaul Society at the end of the night.

Its great because not only does everyone walk away with someting "new", but we have space in our closet for what we DO wear. Also, it's a great, fun (and practically free!) girls night out!

It would be cool if clothing companies could retake your old stuff and make it new again, a cradle to cradle approach some may say.
